Taaqatwar stars my favorite jodi from the 80s -- Govinda & Neelam. Yes, I'm on a mission to find all their films together, if I could.
A few months ago, I bought the dvd and finally decided to re-watch it. Damn, why does the dvd have to stop playing in the middle of the film?? In order to fulfill my screencap/review mentality post, I went online to get the rest of the caps. When you see blurry stills, it's because I screepcap them online with not-so-great quality.

David Dhawan makes his debut directing Taaqatwar. Most people associate David Dhawan with comedies like Coolie No. 1, Raja Babu, Judwaa, Partner. etc. He does tend to repeat a few of his favorite stars - Govinda, Sanjay Dutt, Salman, Karisma Kapoor, etc.
Anil Dhawan plays Peter Dimello.
He gets wrongfully accused of killing Police Inspector Amar Sharma.
Anupam Kher plays Officer Sharma.
Whether or not, he does right or wrong, someone out there is always out to get him. Officer Sharma is a good cop, husband, and father. But all that doesn't matter, he gets murdered by Munjal Khurana.
Shakti Kapoor plays the selfish Munjal Khurana.
Munjal Khurana is a rich man who only thinks about himself. He planned to have Officer Sharma murdered and frame Peter Dimello. But he couldn't have done it alone.
Paresh Pawal plays Ganguram.
Ganguram works in the police station and helped Munjal Khurana in framing Peter Dimello.
Tanuja plays Mrs. Sharma, Officer Sharma's wife.
She always worried about her husband's life in the line of duty.
After her husband's death and learning about Peter Dimello not being the killer of her husband, she decides to raise John, Peter Dimello's son, and her son. However, she couldn't go to the police or her son, Amar, would be murdered.
But things don't always turn out the way you want it to be. No matter how hard you tried. Little John couldn't handle the criticism of being called a murder's son and left their family.
Time goes by, everyone grows older and hair gets whiter.
Grown-up Amar is played by Sanjay Dutt.
Since a child, he always wanted to be a cop like his father and fulfilled that wish. But he dresses more like a goon than a cop in most of the film.
He must get revenge. His father's death was injustice, and so was the framing of John's father, Peter.
John Dimello is played by Govinda.
Because of the criticism of becoming a murderer's son, John ends up being a crook, just to live off what he could get. He still has a good heart but is clouded by negativity.
Anita Raaj plays Munjal Khurana's beautiful daughter, Anju.
Anju is in love with Amar. Unlike her father Munjal Khurana, she is not selfish and think about others.
Neelam plays John Dimello's girlfriend.
I don't even remember her having a name in the film! She is a cute gypsy girl who doesn't have a place to stay and ends up staying with John and falling in love with him.
Gulshan Grover plays Munjal Khurana's son.
Like Neelam, he is nameless too. We all know he is Munjal Khurana's son. Like father, like son, he is evil and manipulative.
That's what Taaqatwar is all about. Revenge!
Most of the songs are silly and could be cut from the film. However, "Dhak Dhak Karti Hai" is a good listen.

Overall, worth it for Govinda-Neelam jodi. I made so many caps because the film is fun and silly. If I didn't know this was a David Dhawan production, then I wouldn't think it would be directed by him.
But may be worth it just for another one Neelam's sassy, ass-kicking moments, with the help from Govinda.
