Recommendations: Indian cinema college movies

Ever since I did the review for the Telugu film, Happy Days, I wrote about how Bollywood doesn't have many young love, high school/college type of movies. If there is any in Bollywood, I want to see more of that.

BollywoodDeewana agreed that not many Bollywood films have the school atmosphere and would like to see Bollywood have movies such as the Hollywood movie, Mean Girls.

That would be great. I would like to add, I would like to see something like Bring it On and A Cinderella Story.

Or like Korean movies, My Tutor Friend, 100 Days with Mr. Arrogant, or My Little Bride.

But I do realize that these Hollywood and Korean movies that were mentioned are female-focused, which Bollywood doesn't have many of. Unless it's more of an "art" film, such as Corporate, Satta, Daman, etc.

Bollyviewer commented that there were many Bollywood films that took place in the college environment before 1990.

Bollyviewer listed a few:

  • Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak - more of a Romeo-Juliet type of movie and not enough school environment for me

  • Daulat Ki Jung - not enough school again, plus parents are the real obstacle of their love

  • Dil - same as above, dang Aamir-Juhi, hehehe
  • Khiladi - been a while since I've seen it but I mainly remember it for being an action flick and not enough school atmosphere

  • Mashooq - haven't seen but read the synopsis and don't think it would fit what I'm looking for

  • Kuch Kuch Hota Hai - first half is college atmosphere but want entire movie to be youthful, don't grow up....yet, hehehe

  • Pyar Mein Kabhi Kabhi - fits what I'm looking for, seen it, liked it, but didn't love.
Based on that, prefer films that deal with love between the hero and heroine without the parents' interference. Plus I wanted at least 80% of the movie to be focus on school setting. Definitely prefer the genre to be a romantic comedy.

So yes, movies like Pyar Mein Kabhi Kabhi, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Happy Days, or Mere Pehla Pehla Pyaar type of movies will do.

Happy Days is a South Indian film so any recommendations for any Indian cinema will be great.

Lapetitediva suggested the Tamil film, Kallori (sounds interesting so only I would know if I watch it), Tamil film, Ullam Ketkumea (definitely sounds like what I'm looking for), & Telugu film, Devadasu (not sure if this is what I'm looking for).

Now that I think about it. Even Sachien and Happy may fit in the category, so Devadasu could fit too. However, looking at more movies focus on the school atmosphere.

Suggestions, anyone?

Again, at least 80% school atmosphere and no parents-in-the-way-with-their-love type of movie.

Thanks so much!

I know. I know. Bollywood is known for its masala. Again, I like to complicate things and make it more difficult :)

TheBollywoodFan suggested Afansa Pyar Ka (didn't like, not enough college atmosphere) & Mohabbatein (not really what I'm looking for since it's mostly focused on AB, SRK, and Aish. Again, another parent in the way type of movie)

Darshit recommended the following:

  • Main Hoon Naa - love isn't the focus. I don't want some college; I want mostly. So no backdrop at all.

  • Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya - ditto as above - seen it and loved it though

  • Dil Dosti Etc - I actually have the dvd and got it mainly for Shreyas and didn't even know what the synopsis is, lol, but it sounds interesting, not sure if that's what I'm looking for but all for Shreyas!

  • Dil Jo Bhi Kahey - haven't seen but if college is just the backdrop then nope, but still sounds interesting

  • Duniya Dilwalon Ki - haven't seen but read the synopsis that it has college backdrop but may watch it for Tabu - just learn that this is the Hindi dubbed version of the Tamil film, Kadhal Desam

  • Prefer romantic comedy or so. A Socha Na Tha feel with college atmosphere. So no Yuva type of movies.

But out of all this, I did remember another film that falls in that category that I'm looking for - Ishq Vishk (liked it a lot but has been a while, re-watch?)

Seen Jaane Tu Ya Jaana Na (liked it a lot too but it's more of an after-college film)

Thanks so much for the suggestions!!!!
