Bhoothnath - scary movie or family fun?

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm253/blogspot_images/Bhoothnath/bhoothnath.jpg

Bhoothnath is about a ghost (Amitabh Bachchan) who refuses to let anyone live in his house and scares everyone away. Banku (Aman Siddiqui) and his mother Anjali (Juhi Chawli) move into the new house at Nath Villa. Banku befriends the ghost and calls him Bhoothnath (literally meaning "ghost Nath). Now Banku learns why his ghostly friend is stuck and helps him attain salvation to move on with his afterlife.

When I first saw the trailer for Bhoothnath, I didn't know what to think about the movie. I saw a little boy dancing around with Amitabh Bachchan. I didn't fully understand the storyline. So I ended watching the movie anyways because Shah Rukh Khan is in the movie with Juhi Chawla. Yah! I love them together.

During the beginning of the movie, it looks like you're going to watch a horror film. You have Aashish Chaudhry and Nauheed Cyrusi going to the Nath Villa to settle in (it doesn't look like it to me though - looks like they were trying to get "busy" that night cause it was dark and just found an empty home).

Amitabh Bachchan as the ghost. Honestly, he looked like a homeless man instead with his unkept hair, looked really tired and old, unhappy. Bad make up. I know people who have complained about seeing the Big B everywhere. He is everywhere but he IS a good actor. I enjoy watching his films.

Rajpal Yadav has a short role but worth mentioning. (1) He is homeless so makes me think maybe he is a ghost? hahahaha. (2) He's a good comedian. He plays the guy who Anjali (Juhi Chawla) hires to clean up the house because no one else would do it cause they are scared of the house. Rajpal is a poor homeless guy who needs money and was stealing from Anjali.

The beautiful Nath Villa home. The new family moves in.

The family who moves in the Nath Villa home - Aditya (Shah Rukh Khan), Anjali (Juhi Chawla), and Banku (Aman Siddiqui). Aditya works on a ship and has to leave his wife and son. It was great to see Shah Rukh and Juhi again. Can we have more of them next time?

Did I mention I love Shah Rukh? I do. I am not obsess about him as others are. Ever since I saw him in Baazigar, I loved his acting. I've been following up on his career. Although sometimes it seems that I'm not a fan of his, I am. I just don't like his fans who are blinded by his movies and refuse to watch other talented actors out there too. I especially love his jodi with Kajol and Juhi. Sometimes Shah Rukh does overact, I admit but I still love his movies.

Juhi is soooo cute in this movie. I'm just happy to see her again on screen post marriage. She's been in quite a few films. A lot of them have been non Masala films. I wish I would see Shah Rukh and Juhi in a mature romantic love story. Why not? Hollywood does it. Bollywood needs to do that too. Juhi looks better with age and still looking young.

Aman (Aman Siddiqui) goes by the nickname Banku. He is just so adorable. He actually have the main role in the film next to Bhoothnath (Amitabh Bachchan). Banku is the new kid on the block and often gets pick on by his school rival Jojo.

Jojo (sorry, don't know his real name, if anyone knows, lemme know so I could write it). He's the bully. He picks on Banku. Gets Banku in trouble. Wants to beat Banku in everything.

The rival song between Banku and Jojo shocked me. I can see how some may think it's cute and cool to dress up little kids in gangster wear.

I think the dances were cute but the girls in skimpy outfits? Noooooo!!!!!! Why??

Maybe it's just cool dressing like that....

Once you get happy, you look normal now....oh by the ways, his name is actually Kailash in the film.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm253/blogspot_images/Bhoothnath/PDVD_067.jpg

I thought I'll mention Delnaaz Paul cause people remember her as Sweetu as Naina's (Preity Zinta) best friend in Kal Ho Naa Ho. She plays Jojo's mother in the movie. The little rivalry between Anjali and her were cute because both wanted their kids to do the best in the sports competitions.

Priyanshu Chatterjee plays Vijay, the son of Kailash. It was great to see him again after so long. Loved him in Tum Bin then he disappeared and came back in a supporting role in Madhoshi. He had a lot of potential. Would like to see more of him again.

I enjoyed Bhoothnath. It was better than I expected. Kept my interest in the movie. The little kids were cute. I think you can watch this with your kids. Some may disagree because of how it ended but it all depends on your religious preferences.

  1. Yay for Dalnaaz getting more work! Those kids look so stinking cute I can hardly stand it. I'm still not sure if I'll be able to sit through it though.

  3. OMG SRK is in the movie, too! And Juhi... May just watch it inspite of Big B (Saw his face in the posters and didnt even bother to look at the promos so, I had no idea who was in it!).

Banku and Jojo look like twins separated at birth!

From your review this one appears to be a mixture of Casper and The Canterville Ghost!

  4. Bollyviewer - thanks for stopping by!!! I agree with you on Jojo and Banku. At first I was confused on who's who.

Unfortunately SRK and Juhi doesn't have much screen time together but I thought the movie was sooo cute!

I saw Casper a looong time ago. I haven't seen Canterville Ghost yet but will check it out. :)
