Karam - the best John movie ever

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll291/blogger_images1/karam/Karam3.jpg

As I mentioned in my Saaya review, I was disappointed that my Karam dvd wasn't working anymore. I tried and tried to re-watch it again but no success. Therefore after watching Saaya, Jism, and Paap, I had to watch Karam. So I went and got another dvd! So this is the fourth John movie, I've seen and reviewed in a row. Having his birthday on the 17th reminded me about me neglecting and missing him.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll291/blogger_images1/karam/karam.jpg

Why do I love Karam? Where do I start? From the script, music, acting, to cinetography. Admitedly, Karam is the film that got some Hmong people who dislike Bollywood look at Bollywood in a different light. What do I mean by that? These Hmong people were tired of the lovey-dovey, endless romantic, song-and-dance storylines. They felt that's all Bollywood had to offer. Boy, were they wrong when they saw Karam. They even told me that they won't discredit Bollywood anymore. Of course, everyone has his or her own opinions.

John (John Abraham) is a contract killer and works for a don that goes by the name of Captain (Bharat Dabholkar
). One day his conscious got to him and does not feel that he should not commit anymore crimes. A rival don, Yunus (Vishwajeet Pradhan) threatens Captain. Before allowing John to leave the life of crime, Captain abducts John's wife, Shalini (Priyanka Chopra) and assigns John to kill five more people, one of them being Yunus.

John lives through a life of crime. Being a contract killer, an assassin, whatever you may call it, is his job. What happens when one day you just consciously can't do your job anymore? Your life is in dangerous and those who means the world to you, their lives are in danger as well.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll291/blogger_images1/karam/PDVD_050.jpg

Look at the angst in those eyes! Love John's facial expressions, as well, as his teary-eyed melting point. Unlike a lot of people, I prefer John in these types of roles rather than the romantic or comedic guy.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll291/blogger_images1/karam/PDVD_036.jpg

Shalini is the beautiful wife of John. She sings and work at the Butterfly Lounge. As a supportive wife, she is there for John and wishes the best in both fo their lives together.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll291/blogger_images1/karam/PDVD_063.jpg

Priyanka Chopra is amazing! I criticized her in Dostana, but loved her so much Karam. Instead of just casting with big names, I prefer her to be more choosy about her roles. Although I have yet to see Fashion, she did impress me a lot in her debut film, Andaaz.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll291/blogger_images1/karam/PDVD_062.jpg

Kaif is John's partner in crime and a close friend.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll291/blogger_images1/karam/PDVD_102.jpg

Bull is the other partner in crime with Kaif and John.

Captain
(Bharat Dabholkar) is the don who overseas John and kidnaps Shalini.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll291/blogger_images1/karam/PDVD_058.jpg

Yunus is the rival don who challenges Captain. He is No. 1 on the hit list. John must kill him, along with four other.

Many don't realize that Shiney Ahuja was in this film as well. Honestly, I was one of them. After I saw him in Gangster and Woh Lamhe, I looked up his filmography to find out he was in Karam, as well as Fanaa.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll291/blogger_images1/karam/karam1.jpg

Karam has nice music and fit the movie well and was not overdone.

Song #5 - "Tera Hi Karam"

Not able to stop myself, I took some screen caps of John's emotional breakdowns, besides the "Le Jaa" songs.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll291/blogger_images1/karam/PDVD_101.jpg

Why is there so much emotional and hurt? The movie is very gory, lots of violence, and can be disturbing for others. I love watching all types of film but Karam is unique in its own way. Shalini narrates the story, writing in her diary....

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll291/blogger_images1/karam/PDVD_009.jpg

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll291/blogger_images1/karam/PDVD_010.jpg

Shalini talks about when John shot his first bullet. Watching this scene was really cool. It reminded me something from a Hollywood film. Actually it reminded me of Sin City, narrating with cartoon visuals.

Karam definitely isn't a movie for everyone. However, I love this movie so much. It has John and Priyanka's best acting, interesting script, intro to Shiney, good music, cool visuals, and more. Interesting, when I looked up the definition of Karam -- In Hindi, I found that it means "action" while in Arabic, it means "generous."

I've never even heard of this movie! I'm gonna have to look up spoilers though; I can't stand not knowing how a movie's gonna end. LOL

Oh, there's no need to fuss. I've got a lot to finish reviewing as it is, and I'm sure Induna will have a copy stocked by the time I'm ready to place another order.

BTW, I was going to buy Sin, but then I realized it was just a dubbed version of Paap. Oops! Can't believe I didn't pick up on that!

BB - You know you can always e-mail me about Bollywood. I'll be happy to hook you up.

Wow, I'm glad you read my Paap review for the Sin info. :)

OOOPS...
Sorry for not keeping up with ur filmfest. Was busy somewhere.

Karan is on my 'MISS LIST'. Really, I missed the movie, everytime when its on TV. I think this is right time to get DVD and watch it.

I love overall feel of the movie. DARK. I had only seen two scenes. One where Shiney saves girl from building. And scene follows that, priyanka and john watching tv and John breaks down. Impressive scene that was.

Let me see.....

Darshit - It's okay. I know we all get busy. Thanks for checking on this blog though.

I really hope you get to watch this movie soon. It is a good, dark film!
