Best of Bipasha Basu - Nicki's choice

Oh gosh, it's been a looooong time since I've blogged in here. It's just that I have been soooo busy. Not only with school but at home too.

Some people have requested me to suggest my fave films of my fave girl crush, Bipasha Basu. Since I haven't blogged much about her films, I thought I would list just five must-see films of Bips.

I'm not going to include any of the ones I've already talked about - Race, Raaz (although it should be watched for Bips), Bachna Ae Haseeno (Bips all the way), Jism (debateable, I think it's for John but some may say Bips), Sachien, Aa Dekhen Zara

So here goes. I hope to re-watch them and blog them. Until then, I'll just give a brief synopsis and thoughts.

These are just films that you have to watch for Bipasha, for her acting. She looks good in most of her films.

Gunaah

Loosely based on the Hollywood film, Out of Sight with George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez.

With a troublesome upbringing, Prabha (Bipasha) turns her life around and becomes a cop. She is out to capture a criminal name Aditya (Dino Morea). But in the process, she realizes that he has some good in his heart and wants to learn why he decides to take a life of crime. During that process, she starts to fall for Aditya.

You know what? This is the first film I've seen of Irrfan Khan and became a fan. Sadly, he was noticed later on. Irrfan plays ACP Digvijay Pandey.

Dino never looked hotter. Love guys with stubs.

But of course, Gunaah is Bipasha all the way. I remember critics bashing Bips for being too sexy. OMFG, she was in a cop outfit in most of the film. When she's not on duty, do you want her to wear it too?

Madhoshi

Originally titled Mumkin, Madhoshi is also Bips movie all the way. Anupama (Bipasha) is devastated after her sister is killed in 9/11 attack. After a few years, Anupama is happily engaged to Arpit (Priyanshu Chatterjee). When Arpit goes away for business, Anupama meets Aman (John Abraham) and becomes totally smitten by him. She doesn't know much about him except she wants to be with him.

John and Bips sizzle their chemistry. Admittedly, this film had great potential. I won't lie about that. The way it executes is weak and has some shades of Hollywood film, A Beautiful Mind. Nevertheless, worth it for Bipasha, her film all the way -- John & Priyanshu are only the supporting cast.

Chehraa

When I first saw the trailer, I was like wow!!!! Looks like a combination of Gunaah and Madhoshi! Bips kicks ass!! Another film with Bips and Dino. They were the jodi back then. Oh yeah, Irrfan is back. It's actually the Gunaah team!

Megha (Bipasha) and Akash (Dino Morea) are college sweethearts. However, due to certain circumstances Megha disappears and they didn't end up together. They re-united again and fall for each other again. Akash learns why Megha disappeared.

Chehraa has lots of surprising elements making it an edge-of-your-seat thriller. Nothing is predictable. One film of Bips that went un-noticed and is under-rated for both the exciting storyline and amazing acting.

Rakht

Based on the Hollywood film, The Gift with Cate Blanchett, Keanu Reeve, Hilary Swank, and Katie Holmes.

If you already seen
The Gift, you already know what to expect. Rakht is almost frame-by-frame copy just Bollywood style with memorable music and a "happier" ending. Like most "remakes," I already saw The Gift first but still enjoyed Rakht a lot.

Single-mother and widowed Drishti (Bipasha) makes her living by reading tarot cards to predict the future for others. One of her regular clients, Riya (Neha Dhupia) is abused by her husband Sunny (Dino Morea). Sunny threatens to beat up Drishti as she constantly encourages Riya to leave him. Natasha (Amrita Arora) ends up missing and is engaged to Rahul (Sanjay Dutt). Rahul comes to Dishti for help.

Wanting to see a good thriller? Rakht is for you. Just don't go in watching it with high expectations if you're a The Gift fan.

Corporate

Now, most people who snub Bips for just being a sexy face hasn't seen her best work yet. I am a fan of Madhur Bhandarkar's film but his latest, Fashion, did not impress me.

Corporate is focused on two rivalry food production corporations - The Sehgal Group of Industries owned by Vinay (Rajat Kapoor) and the Marwah Group of Industries owned by Dharmesh (Raj Babbar). Nishi (Bipasha) is Vice President of The Sehgal Group of Industries and is love with Vinay's brother-in-law Ritesh (Kay Kay Menon), Senior Vice President. Win-win-win is Vinay's motto, whether or not, it's right or wrong -- The Sehgal Group of Industries violates FDA regulations and the health of consumers.

The credit is given a lot to Madhur for the script and directing. Too bad Bips hasn't been given an opportunity to show-off her talents. But do not worry, she still has her forthcoming Bengali film, Afterword. Can not wait for it!!!!

Just talking about these Bips films makes me wanna review all of them now! And make caps!! But until I finally finish watching this Tamil film with Sneha....I can't yet.

Bips has come a long way from her early films. My first Bips experience was Jism and Gunaah and if Corporate hadnt come by, I'd have ended my life being totally uninterested in her! Even after Corporate, you can see her evolution as an actor. She is so much better than the rest of the cast in Bachna Ae Haseenon. Cant wait for her Afterword.

I've seen very few of her films, i can count them Bachna ae hasseno, race & Corporate. I loved her in Corporate the most, that film proves she can really act, i guess she silenced the critics. I also really liked her in Race and BAH but i think Corporate is her strongest ever role

On Madhur Bhandarkar,i loved Chandni Bar, Corporate and Fashion(even though i had some issues with it)

I totally hated Page 3.

Women seem to be the central characters in his movies and they all seem to suffer

bollyviewer - Yes, Bips definitely has come a long way. I am anticipating and waiting for Afterword. Glad you didn't give up hope for her :)

bollywooddeewana - It's okay if you've seen only a few films of Bips. At least you know she is talented. She can't help it if she's sexy, hehehe.

I liked Page 3 a lot. That's when I became a Koko fan too.

Yes, Madhur's films are very female oriented and suffer a lot :(

I really want to see Chehraa now! Corporate's been in my queue for forever but whoever's in line before me doesn't want to send it back to Netflix. LOL

I used to love watching Indian movies when I was younger. Couldn't understand a word... but who needed words when you had action. It always seem to be the same actors too... one I remembered... woman crashes her car and her boyfriend's mother pays for her plastic surgery if she agrees to never see him again.

ajnabi - I need to re-watch Chehraa. Hope you get to watch it.

Aymiee - you are talking about Yeh Vaada Raha. I blogged about it here.

Nicki, Thanks! that was the one. Here's another one you might be able to help me find the title. It was about a husband and wife who were struggling financially. The husband ends up cheating on his wife with a beautiful executive. His wife confronts him with his infidelity and he beats her. She leaves him . When he is dumped by the other women, he goes searching for his wife whom he later finds out had committed suicide. I believe he ended up as a monk to repent for his sins.

gunaah is bipasha's best film...only bipasha can be seen in a leading lady's role and do the hero's job.she is so convincing as a police officer...felt bad that she was beaten up so much in the film...
