After watching Surya in Ayutha Ezhuthu and Ghajini, I became a fan! Several people, including sita-ji, has suggested me to watch Sillunu Oru Kaadhal and wrote about it on her blog. Since it's hard for me to get Tamil and Telugu films, a friend decided to send me a copy along with another Surya/Jyotika movie, Kaakha Kaakha, which I can not wait to watch!! Thank goodness. I finally get to watch Surya again. He's my Kollywood crush. And I get to see Surya and Jyotika in one movie! Read so many times how both of them have great chemistry on and off screen. They are married in real life.
Gowtham & Kundavi...forced into marriage
but as time go by....fall deeply in love
Ishwarya & Gotham....first love
and therefore, unforgettable
The different meaning of life in different times of one's life
That pretty much sums up what the movie is about. You have a carefree, young, beautiful girl, Kundavi (Jyotika), who wants to fall in love and get married. Unfortunately, she had an arranged marriage. Gotham (Surya) also was arranged to marry Kundavi. However, they fell in love after marriage. Their lives together are great -- both have a good job and a beautiful daughter. However, when Kundavi learns that Gotham had a first love with Ishwarya (Bhoomika), she makes the decision to see if Gotham truly loves her and is willing to sacrafice her love for him if he still loves Ishwarya.
Kundavi is sassy and sweet. She always wanted to fall in love before getting married. But that is not the case. Her parents arranged her marriage.
Now, she madly is in love with the man that was arranged for her to marry, Gotham. Both have a daughter together and are doing well. Her world turns upside down when she finds out that Gotham has been in love before with a girl name Ishwarya. Gotham and Ishwarya were not able to be together. Kundavi makes the decision to see if Gotham and her were meant to be together.
Although Surya's name is credited before Jyotika, the movie starts off introducing Jyotika's character, Kundavi.
Jyothika is lovely! I have never seen any of her South Indian films. I've only seen her in her Hindi film, Doli Saja Ke Rakhna, which interesting and ironically her debut film. To me, for some reason, Bollywood movies don't portray South Indian actresses acting skills that well! Jyotika is not drop-dead gorgeous nor have the best figure. But I freaking love her, she's so cute and adorable, with the smile and cheeks! sita-ji has even mentioned this scene to me -- a girl is flirting with Gotham on the train and Kundavi observes but the girl does not not know that they are married. One of the girl's friend notices Kundavi looking at them and tells her friend, "You could never compete with her, she's cute and chubby like a little bear."
Gotham is happily married to his wife Kundavi. Although he has never revealed to his wife that he has once loved before.
Can he be in love twice? Or does his heart truly belong to his first love, Ishwarya? He was forbidden to be with Ishwarya but when he gets a chance again to be with Ishwarya, what does his heart tell him?
Surya!!
Surya is amazing! Afterall, he is my Kollywood crush. I'm not a fan of men with moustaches, especially the one Surya has but damn!! He's the only man who can sport it and I still find him sexy. There's a scene from the movie when Kundavi and her friends were looking for potential future husbands. One of her friends mentioned that a man with a "good" moustache means they are good in bed. LOL!
Although I do prefer this look on him. Hotness!
Ishwarya is Gotham's first love. They met in college. She is the MP's daughter. Her father forbid her to be with Gotham, who is considered a rowdy.
They are each other's first love and wanted to get married. However, this ended when her father interrupted their love affair. They never saw each other again. As fate as it, they are able to meet again but is Gotham still in love with her?
Hmmm, what is up with the three lead stars not using their last name? I've seen Bhoomika spell her name as Bhumika sometimes.
Asin was originally suppose to play Ishwarya but Bhoomika stepped in. I'm no fan of Bhoomika but I do think she can act. She has a cute, girl-next-door look. Although she has a chubby face, she sure is slim and has a nice figure!
The girl who plays Gotham and Kundavi's daughter is Shriya Sharma. She was in Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic as Aditi! She's so adorable.
Future Bollywood or Kollywood actress, I tell you!
Can you see that? I tried my best to capture the title.

I made a few more caps of Surya cause I think he's just too cute!
BTW, could anyone tell me the building behind Surya, what is it? And where is it located? It looks so beautiful!!
After 3 years, I get a response!! Thank you anonymous!!!
Response from comment below....
"Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (previously known as Victoria Terminus) in Mumbai"
Made a couple of caps of how beautiful and colorful the movie is
Love the girlfriend friendship shown in the beginning of Kundavi with her friends Tamizh and Subbu
There was a scene when Gotham was a bully in college. He did that famous Bruce Lee kick from the movie, Way of the Dragon, when he did not want to hit the villian anymore...so he kicks the light. Surya does the same thing in this film.
I love this still of Jyotika! The hurt and love portrayed in her eyes without saying anything!
Sometimes I think as women, wives in general, we tend to find out what we don't want to know about our hubbies' past. But what we learn, it's hard to move on and let go. Is the past just the past? Or must you find out the truth before moving on?
Overall, I did enjoy Sillunu Oru Kaadhal. But it's not my favorite film at all. It's definitely worth a watch. On a scale from 1 - 10, with 10 being the best, I would rate it a 7.
